When you think of Mother’s Day, you probably start thinking and worrying about what you’re going to get mom this year and if you’re going to visit to spend time with mom or just give her a call. While these are all valid thoughts, the real point of Mother’s Day is to honor and remember mom and all she’s done for you.
Today, we’re sharing just a few of the ways that your mom may have had a big impact in your life, so you can spend more time reflecting with love and less time worrying.
Moms Make You Who You Are
Moms both physically and emotionally make us who we are. The fact that your mom went through pregnancy with you and raised you through all the ups and downs says a lot. You have your mom to thank for your very genetic makeup. There may be some things you like and some things you don’t like about your genetics, but your very physical existence is thanks to mom and that’s no small feat.
Beyond being responsible for making you, mom has helped make you who you are today emotionally. She supported you through many of life’s twists and turns and for better or for worse, helped you become who you are. You may still be in the middle of the journey to becoming your best self, but wherever you are, mom helped get you there.
A Built-In Support System
Whether it was your first baseball game, ballet recital, or big test at school, mom was likely there rooting for you. She showered you with love and always wanted the best for you. You knew that whatever challenge was ahead of you, you had your mom there to support and love you. While you and your mom may have had different dreams, she always cared.
Despite what struggles your mom may have had, she never gave up. She constantly did her best so that you could grow up and live a happy life.
Nowadays, you know how hard a support system like that is to find. Close friends are a dime a dozen and you’ll never quite find someone who supports you like your mom does. Mother’s Day is a time to support and care for mom just like she has done for you. It’s said, a mother is one who can take the place of all others, but whose place no one else can take.
Giving and Giving
Mom has done so much to raise you. She fed you, she cared for you when you were sick, she got you everywhere you needed to be. A mom’s generosity is endless. That’s why we have Mother’s Day each year. It’s just one day for us to focus on mom and give back. And that’s the least we can do. But if you want to really do it right, you’ll honor and treat your wise and beautiful mom like every day is Mother’s Day.
By now you might be figuring out that she was right about everything or at least some things. Her helpful advice may not always be welcome, but it comes from a place of love and care. We can all admit that it’s not easy being a mother, and that’s why Mother’s Day means so much.
To truly give back, let your mom know what she means to you. Spend some quality time with mom if you’re visiting or gift her with something thoughtful if you’re miles away. Think about her hobbies and what she does all the time and see if there’s a gift that might make things easier or better for her. Running out of gift ideas? Most of all, take the time on Mother’s Day to really let her know what she’s done for you and how grateful you are for her love. A note of gratitude and love could have mom beaming with happiness for days.
