Fashion Week is an incredibly exciting time with major fashion trends hitting the fashion industry and brand new, awe-worthy collections. This year’s event did not disappoint. With all that goes on during New York Fashion Week, it can be hard to keep up. Our CEO, Angela Pan, was invited to NYFW this year so we’ve got first-hand details on news and fashion trends that really wowed.
See Now, Buy Now Movement Disrupts Industry
One of the biggest changes at fashion week we couldn’t help but notice was the see now, buy now movement. Without much warning, major brands like Burberry, Tom Ford, and Tommy Hilfiger announced that at the next fashion week, their collections would be available for consumer purchase immediately. This means that all of us fashion lovers following these brands on social media will be able to buy collections on the same day that they hit the runway. It’s amazing to see how social media is becoming a major sales lead for even more traditional designers. While this may seem like it wouldn’t change much, it has the potential to dramatically change fashion week. Instead of showing a collection for a season that’s six months away, fashion designers will be able to show collections that fit the current season. It will be interesting to see if every designer switches to this new style or if the next fashion week will be an odd mix between collections for current and upcoming season.
It Girls Reigned at Fashion Week
Starting with Taylor Swift’s squad, the it girls are making a major comeback. From Tommy Hilfiger’s GiGi Hadid moment to DVF’s all-out party with Kendall Jenner, Jourdan Dunn, Karlie Kloss, and more, fashion week was full of stars and their girl squads.
Son Jung Wan’s show was no different. Sitting front row was no other than Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, Orange Is the New Black‘s Vicky Jeudy and MTV’s Teen Wolf actress Arden Cho. We adore Wan’s style. The fashion designer’s collection was aptly named “Playing with Fashion” and featured upbeat patterns and non-traditional color choices. Her collection stood out from others just like the Helix Cuff stands out from the many wearables that pay no heed to fashion and design.
While at the fashion show, Angela had the pleasure of meeting Miss Universe, herself! She enjoyed meeting Miss Pia Wurtzbach and shared her love of the designer Son Jung Wan and the story of Ashley Chloe’s Helix Cuff.
Who Says Change is Constant? Monochrome Black is Here to Stay
If there was one thing that almost all the fashion designers from fashion week could agree on, it was that black is still a staple and we don’t mind at all (Have you seen the black on black Helix Cuff? It’s ridiculously sleek). Vogue even declared that black ruled the runways. This fashion trend was easy enough to see. The question is will black ever fade in its popularity?
Designer Nika Tang also exhibited several beautiful all-black looks (pictured above). Her presentation was one that Angela saw while at New York Fashion Week. Tang’s Autumn/Winter 2016 collection was inspired by western fashion and details of natural desert undergrowth. With rich, multi-layered ensembles, she offered a collection that was both elegant and bold. We couldn’t help but think of how the Helix Cuff’s sleek and fashion-forward design fits into Tang’s collection aesthetic.
Tang also included pops of unexpected color and combinations of snakeskin and turquoise to offered us a colorful surprise. It reminded us of our Helix Cuff Wearable Headphones and how they unexpectedly transform into Bluetooth headphones.
We loved Nika Tang’s presentation. Tang and Ashley Chloe are both based in the San Francisco Bay area giving us a subtle yet powerful connection. We’re seeing the traditionally tech-centric Silicon Valley evolve into a diversified fashion-forward community and have to say that we’re pretty excited about it.
While at New York Fashion Week, we met with a number of fashion industry experts. We got a great response from the many people we shared the Helix Cuff with. Angela even met with people from Tory Burch and numerous other designers getting a lot of positive feedback. It turns out that the fashion industry’s experts are big fans of the Helix Cuff’s design and look! We appreciate their feedback and are excited to see how the Helix Cuff will fit in with all kinds of different styles.
